Guidelines/Instructions:
Directions: Say, Now I am going to say a made-up word. First I want you to repeat the made-up word, then say it one sound at a time. Say each sound that you hear in the order you heard it. For example, if you hear ma (as in mat), you would first repeat the word ma, then say it one sound at a time, m-a. You try it. Say ma (pause for answer). For Item 1: If the examinee mispronounces ma, say it again. If the examinee literally says Say ma instead of just saying ma, say, No, I just want you to repeat ma. If correct, say, That's right. You have the idea. Let's try the next one. If incorrect, say, That's not quite right. To say ma one sound at a time, you say m-a. Let's try the next one. For items 2 to 3: Continue correct/incorrect feedback as above. Say, Let's try a few more. Litsen to the CD. (Start the CD.) For items 4 to 11: Now when you hear the made-up word, go ahead and say it, then say the made-up word one sound at a time without the prompt from the CD. Ready? (Continue feedback and repeat item or prompt if necessary.) Directions for items 12 to 31: Say, Okay, now let's do this with some made-up words that have more sounds in them.
